چکیده

Increased wealth and per capita energy use have transformed lives shaped societies, but poverty remains a global challenge. Previous research has shown positive relationships among metrics of health happiness economic indices such as income gross domestic product between human development. To our knowledge, however, no comprehensive assessment examined to what extent may limit national-level trends in metrics. We analyze the maximum performance nine health, economic, environmental by country, determining which increase with show thresholds or plateaus performance. Across dataset, eight metrics, including life expectancy, infant mortality, happiness, food supply, access basic sanitation services, improve steeply then plateau at levels average primary annual consumption 10 75 GJ person−1 computed nationally (five 30 person−1). One notable exception is air quality (energy threshold 125 across 133 countries). Averaged countries (with least seven metrics) showing best given their are Malta, Sri Lanka, Cuba, Albania, Iceland, Finland, Bangladesh, Norway, Morocco, Denmark. If distributed equitably, today's 79 could, principle, allow everyone on Earth realize 95% more all (and assuming other limiting factors). Dozens below this sufficiency threshold, highlighting need combat poverty. Surprisingly, analysis also suggests that reduced could principle occur many higher energy-consuming little loss outcomes, reducing for infrastructure increasing equity.

Convergence in Carbon Emissions per Capita

Convergence in cross country per capita carbon emission rates is an important concept in the climate change debate. This paper provides an empirical analysis of emissions per capita convergence. This analysis is crucial to the assessment of projection models that generate convergence in emission per capita rates and to the assessment of policy proposals that advocate imposing convergence in emi...
